Support Haitian Refugees
Tell President Biden and Vice President Harris to stop deporting and abusing Haitian refugees and start supporting democracy and human rights in Haiti.
We are outraged by the images of Haitian refugees being flown back to Haiti in crisis, and by the cruel and racist abuse being inflicted on Haitians at the U.S. border with Mexico. The families and individuals who've made the difficult journey to the border should be given their legal right to apply for asylum, and they should be treated with humanity, not violence. Haiti is not a safe place to be deporting children and families to. The U.S. should work with Haitian civil society groups to support a transitional government that can return Haiti to democracy and security. President Biden and Vice President Harris should stop trying to hand-pick Haiti's leaders and must end U.S. support for the small circle of corrupt politicians who've robbed the country and dismantled its democracy. Mistreating refugees at the border while supporting the corrupt politicians who've made their country so insecure is wrong.
Faith in Action supports grassroots faith-based organizing in Northeast Haiti through Organisation Peuple Œcuménique pour le Development du Nord-Est (OPODNE). Through A Way Forward in Haiti, we're working with Haitian diaspora communities and allies in the U.S. to support OPODNE's efforts to prevent the spread of COVID in Haiti and promote sustainable community-led development in rural communities. We're organizing for changes in U.S. policy toward Haiti to promote a return to democracy, human rights, and security. Join us!
